Rag Tag and Textile Ltd is excited to announce a brand-new vacancy! We are looking for a passionate, organized, and creative Skills Café Manager to lead an inspiring new project funded by the Highland Council’s Reuse and Repair Fund.

Based in beautiful Broadford, Isle of Skye, Rag Tag is a long-established charity dedicated to supporting mental wellbeing through craft, gardening, and a commitment to the “reuse, reduce, recycle” ethic.

The Role

As the Skills Café Manager, you will be the driving force behind our weekly Repair Skills Café. This project aims to empower our community by sharing traditional skills—from garment repair and upcycling to food waste reduction and composting.

  • Salary: £15.30 per hour
  • Hours: Part-time (7.5 hours per week), typically Thursdays 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
  • Duration: Fixed-term (May 2026 – February 2027)
  • Location: Broadford, Isle of Skye

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Curating the Programme: Developing a diverse schedule of workshops including sewing, knitting, furniture repair, and food sustainability.
  • Hands-on Teaching: Delivering 1–2 workshops per month personally.
  • Team Leadership: Securing and supervising sessional tutors and volunteers.
  • Community Building: Liaising with local recycling organisations and promoting the café via social and print media.
  • Impact Tracking: Maintaining records and contributing to grant reports to showcase the project’s success in reducing landfill.

Who We Are Looking For

We need someone who lives and breathes the circular economy. You should have:

  • Practical Skills: Strong skills in repair or upcycling (sewing skills are a major advantage!).
  • Communication Flair: The ability to share skills with others and promote the project online.
  • Organisational Grit: Experience with risk assessments, reporting, and basic office software.
  • A Positive Outlook: A calm, welcoming approach that fits our safe social space.
